Good afternoon, Blair Adams in for Mike Farwell today. Green Party candidate Jacques Malette is here taking your questions. He is running in Cambridge
It is possible if we continue to work with making the technology better and cheaper. A perfect example is Arise Technologies. It is creating a way to purify Silicon. Silicon is the single most expensive element in making a solar module
We have to spread the word!I have a number of friends who have never been interested but I have talked them into it. We should also work in our school systems to get the youth interested. Rick Mercer said it perfect....Get them hooked when they are young
Do we need a change in mindset when it comes to new energy technologies? Is the price of solar coming down?
the price of solar is coming down. It is getting cheaper to produce as new technology comes to light. What we have to remember is the price will not come down right away. It does take time and alot of R&D
To be honest with you, I know that people believe we are a one issue party. However if you read Vision Green you will see that we have a very solid platform with regards to the budget, health care, etc.
The Green Party beieves in Democracy. If she wants to run in the next Leaders nomination it is up to her. It is up to the Green members to elect her or not.
Great question David. I am stressing to everyone I talk to, to take the time to read Vision Green. What this platform did is take great ideas that worked around the world and incorporate it in a solid fiscially sound platform
We have a few ideas with regards to lowering tuition rates. Lower loans interest rates for students going to University and College. I know that sending a student to college or university is extreamly expensive.
We need to try and work on preventative health care. We need to deal with an issue before it becomes a crisis. With regards to the economy we actually have a fiscial
ly conservative platform. We believe in living within our means.
I will be honest I was once a liberal. When I read Vision Green I realized that their vision actually makes sense.
Well when it comes to the fighter jet it does effect everyone. It works out to be about $1000 per person in Canada. 30 odd billion dollars. That is extra money that could be in your wallet or in your childrens education funds.
We need to invest in Doctors and Nurses and the health care system in general. If we invest in preventative health care it is actually cheaper in the long term cost. Preventing Cancer is cheaper than dealing with Cancer. If it is cheaper we will save Tax Money!
I know it is expensive. I try to make the proper choice in all the products I buy. What I would like to see are companies making an effort to lower the costs. Industry has to step up, and Government can help with insentives for the consumer.
33 minutes to go with our chat with Jacques. Keep sending those questions in.
I want to be the guy in Ottawa blowing the whistle on useless spending. The GPC knows we will not form a majority and we will hopefully get a few seats in Ottawa. But what we can do is try and be the conscious for the people of Canada.
What are you hearing from voters as you go door to door? What do they see as the main issues in this campaign?
The main issue I am hearing is job security. What we would like to see is a shift from a strict automotive industry to a "Green Collar" industry. We put all our eggs in one basket and it hurt our economy. The tri-city area and Guelph are already making this happen. ie. Canadian Solar, Photowatt, Arise Tech, etc. Green technologies are an untapped market
What we need to do is encourage industry. This is already being seen with regards to packaging. It is cheaper for a company to use less packaging. We also must hold industry accountable. Our landfills cannot take much more abuse!
yet another great question...I forget which country it was but it was a Green MP that chose who would form government. In Ottawa as with our election every vote counts. We must work together in Ottawa for the greater good of Canadians. We should work together with all parties for the benefit of the Canadian people. So yes I would work with other representatives to do what is right.
I like to think we live in a democracy where we don't vote for the party who throws the most money at a campaign.
Hey Nathan...My experience in the community really revolves around helping children. I was a big brother for a while, I was also a Coach for 3 and 4 year olds playing soccer. My experience won't really help me out in Ottawa but I know I can help the parents more then I could ever help their children.
15 minutes to go. Keep sending those questions!
I have no experience, I am hoping that a fresh pair of eyes in Ottawa will benefit Cambridge and Canada.
I know I can sit here and type about how different I am. To be honest I don't agree with the Liberal or the Conservatives of the NDP. I believe we should be finacially conservative but socially liberal. The Green Party doesn't lean to one side of the spectrum of the other. That is where I believe Government should be!
The main issues should be waste of Taxes. If you look at the planes. I heard 9 billion for them, then I heard 16 billion and 30 billion. I wan't to see more transparency in Government spending. I wan't know where my tax money is being spent. Regionally I would like to see lower taxes. We pay through the roof for government to spend through the roof.
If you look around the world you will see a handfull of countries that are governed with a coaliton government. In a few of these countries it was the Green MP's that had to make major decisions. We can have a voice if elected, we will have a voice once elected.
We were hoping to get a few seats in the last election, we are hoping to get a few seats in this election. I believe it is only a matter of time before a Green goes to Ottawa. Then the flood gates will open for "Green Revolution"
In that last budget it didn't mention a thing about the 9-31 billion odd dollars, or the 2 odd billion dollars for American styled prisons. That is where the budget worried me. There is no transparency in that last Budget.
The GPC is an option. We are not there to split a vote, we are here to give people a voice. People are fed up with the Liberals, and fed up with the Conservatives, and annoyed by the NDP and frustraited with the Bloc. We are an option.
We need to encourage doctors and nurses to practice in Canada. We need to educate people about the benefits of regular doctor visits and being active.
Thanks to Jacques for coming in today and all the questions!
